Vajrasana

Vajrasana

Vajrasana is one of the simplest asanas to perform for Yoga practitioners. Known also as the Diamond Pose or the Thunderbolt Pose in the west, the Vajrasana is one of the very few asanas that can be practiced with an empty stomach, and after meals as well. Most other asanas are not supposed to be practiced after meals.

How to Go About It
  • Stand on your knees first, and keep the legs together and stretched out. Make sure the big toes cross each other.
  • Assume a sitting position next on your heels. Use the heels to rest the buttocks and the calves to rest the thighs.
  • Extend your hands and place them on the respective knees, and concentrate on your breathing.
  • A minimum of 5 minutes in the final position is advised. Refrain from continuing being in the position if there is any kind of strain.
The Benefits
  • Improved blood circulation in the lower pelvic area of the body.
  • Increased efficiency of the digestive system.
  • Preventing acidity issues and lowering risks of ulcer in the stomach.
  • Helpful for inducing a meditative state of mind.
  • Is of great help to people suffering from lower back pain or injuries.

Safety Measures

The asana is not for those with problems in their knees. Joint pain sufferers should consult a Yoga expert before practicing the Vajrasana.
