Mayurasana
The word ‘Mayur’ stands for peacock in the Sanskrit language, and in the Mayurasana, practitioners assume the shape of a peacock. It has been regarded by Yoga experts as one of the more complicated Yoga poses, especially if you are a beginner. The asana is known mostly for its detoxifying abilities.
How to Go About It
- Kneel on the ground and keep your knees wide. Place the weight of your body on your heels.
- Lean your body forward and press the floor with your palms, and keep your fingers turned in a backward direction. Place the palms just in between your thighs and remember to rest your elbows on the abdomen.
- Move your legs back one by one. Keep them straight and make the toes touch the ground.
- Tense up the muscles in the abdominal region and let the palms shoulder the entire body weight. Your aim should be to get your body elevated and at the same time, be parallel to the floor.
- Amateurs are recommended to try the Mayurasana for 5 seconds when first starting out. Over time, the length can be increased to an entire minute.
